About The Position
Mikisew is seeking a Casual Custodian at the Kahkiyow Keykanow Elders Care Home (KKECH) in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. This role supports the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of residents' living spaces and common areas. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking on a range of cleaning and maintenance tasks as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum one year experience as custodian, janitor, or in a similar role.
- Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
- Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, moving items, and extended periods of standing.
- Valid WHMIS Certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Successful Completion of Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
Responsibilities
- Ensure elders’ rooms are clean and tidy.
- Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces.
- Sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets.
- Washing and sanitizing toilets, sinks and restocking disposables.
- Wipe mirrors, windows, and glass.
- Remove garbage and recycle daily and prepare bins for weekly pick-up.
- Handle emergency cleaning and upkeep requests.
- Report major damage and oversee repairs.
- Occasional custodian tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc.).
- Make note of cleaning supplies that need to be ordered.
- All other duties as assigned.
