About The Position

The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Custodian in the Building Services department. The employee performs responsible unskilled building cleaning tasks; does related work as required. T his is repetitive manual work requiring efficient performance of simple building cleaning and maintenance duties. A custodian works under general supervision on routine recurring assignments, receiving specific instructions on each new or unusual assignment. The work is reviewed by inspection.

Requirements

• Some working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment, and ability to use them economically and efficiently
• ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions
• thoroughness
• Completion of high school or GED and some building cleaning experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
• Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required

Responsibilities

• sweeps, mops and buffs floors, and vacuums carpets
• washes windows and polishes furniture
• dusts woodwork, furniture and other articles
• picks up paper and debris on grounds
• makes minor repairs to building, building equipment, and furniture
• empties trash cans and cleans containers
• cleans and supplies bathrooms
• sweeps and shovels snow
• mows grass and performs related grounds and maintenance tasks
• assists with landscaping and upkeep of the grounds
• ensures building security
• sets-up tables, chairs, and other equipment or supplies
• cleans-up after activities take place
• dusts/washes furniture, tables, chairs, counters, vending machines
• provides assistance with special activities and events
• may assist participants, dispatch vehicles
• may fuel, clean and maintain vehicles
• may remove money from fareboxes
• performs related tasks as required
