About The Position

A Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment within the manufacturing department. This role supports production by ensuring work areas and common spaces meet cleanliness and sanitation standards. The custodian follows established safety guidelines, supports 5S initiatives, and assists with basic facility upkeep.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Basic understanding of safety procedures and chemical handling.
  • Ability to operate cleaning machines (floor scrubbers, vacuums, sweepers) or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; wash windows; and sanitize restrooms and break areas.
  • Empty trash and scrap containers throughout the department.
  • Shovel snow, salt sidewalks, and remove outdoor debris to ensure safe exterior pathways.
  • Clean and sanitize surfaces, equipment exteriors, tables, and high-touch areas.
  • Support 5S and continuous improvement activities (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).
  • Clean around machinery, removing debris, dust, and oil spills while following lockout/tagout and safety procedures.
  • Assist with floor care needs such as buffing, stripping, or using industrial cleaning equipment when required.
  • Ensure walkways, emergency exits, and eyewash stations remain unobstructed.
  • Monitor and restock cleaning supplies
  • Notify supervisor when inventory levels are low or equipment needs repair.
  • Follow all company safety rules, PPE requirements, and safe chemical handling procedures.
  • Report hazards, spills, and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, company, and environmental guidelines.
  • Assist maintenance or production teams with light facility tasks, such as perform minor repairs, including fixing door handles, unclogging drains, changing light bulbs, and repairing drywall.
  • Support special projects, shutdown cleanings, or department moves as assigned.
  • Performs other duties assigned from management.
