About The Position

The Custodial Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, orderly, and welcoming school environment throughout the academic year (August–May). This part-time position performs routine custodial duties under the direction of the Head Custodian, ensuring that classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas are clean, sanitized, and well-maintained. The Custodial Assistant supports the daily operation of the school by helping provide a healthy environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors while contributing to the mission of Catholic education.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous custodial, janitorial, or facilities maintenance experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and follow established cleaning schedules.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a flexible part-time schedule.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep, mop, and maintain floors throughout the school building.
  • Vacuum and shampoo carpets and rugs in classrooms, offices, and common areas.
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste.
  • Dust, wipe, and polish windows, furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces.
  • Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, and shared spaces.
  • Replenish paper products, soap, and other custodial supplies as needed.
  • Assist with seasonal and deep-cleaning projects as directed by the Head Custodian.
  • Help with classroom, meeting, or event room setups and breakdowns when needed.
  • Maintain custodial equipment and supplies in good working condition.
  • Complete assigned tasks efficiently while maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Report maintenance concerns, equipment issues, or safety hazards promptly to the Head Custodian.
  • Follow all cleaning, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Use cleaning chemicals and equipment according to established safety guidelines.
  • Communicate scheduling needs, absences, or operational concerns with the Head Custodian and custodial team in a timely manner.
  • Support the mission, values, and traditions of the Catholic Church and school.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and a spirit of service in all interactions.
  • Help maintain a welcoming and well-kept environment that supports learning and the faith community.
