About The Position

Join our team as a dedicated Full-Time Custodian and play a key role in keeping our Police facility clean, safe, and running at its best! Under the general direction of the Building and Grounds Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing a wide range of custodial and maintenance tasks—including cleaning offices and common areas, maintaining restrooms, handling rubbish removal, monitoring work orders, and assisting with seasonal needs such as snow and ice removal. This role requires strong attention to detail, good time-management skills, and the ability to plan tasks around ongoing activities within the building.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency preferred.
  • One-year custodial experience preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License at time of appointment and maintain during entire course of employment.
  • Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a background check and fingerprinting.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems, evaluate alternative solutions and make sound judgments.
  • Knowledge of a variety of custodial equipment and its uses.
  • Knowledge of custodial cleaning supplies and their uses.
  • Ability to work in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Ability to maintain adequate attendance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse individuals and groups.

Responsibilities

  • Clean Police facility building thoroughly.
  • Clean all offices, lobbies, hallways, entrances, conference rooms, lavatories, sinks and break rooms.
  • Empty trash containers, replace liners as needed and take all trash to dumpster.
  • Place recyclables in appropriate bins.
  • Replenish bathroom tissue and paper towels.
  • Dust counter tops, desk tops, window sills, file cabinets, and tables.
  • Vacuum, dust mop, or wet mop floors as appropriate.
  • Shampoo carpets according to the maintenance schedule.
  • Report maintenance problems to building maintenance supervisor.
  • Check email for any work orders.
  • Ensure all lights are off and all doors are locked as appropriate.
  • Plan cleaning tasks around meetings and activities in progress.
  • Keep sidewalks clear of snow and ice.
  • Salt when necessary.
  • Wash inside panes of windows.
  • Assist with set-up and tear-down of meeting rooms.
  • Assist with office and cubicle moves.
  • Assist in maintaining City grounds.
  • Serve as back up custodian for the Library , Community Center and City Hall.
  • Other duties as assigned.
