About The Position

Under the direction of the Chief Custodian, the Custodian will provide a safe, healthy, and clean building. This role involves cleaning, performing minor and preventative maintenance, and handling snow removal and grounds work. The Custodian is responsible for enforcing State rules and regulations and district policies to ensure the optimum operation of the educational program. This is a 12-month position. Night Shift positions are defined as any positions with a start time after 1:00 PM. This position is considered an Essential Employee position, and flexibility is important as hours are subject to change.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED - preferred
Valid Class D Driver's License with a good driving record
Knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment, and procedures
Ability to perform minor maintenance
Ability to follow oral or written directions
Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, administrators, co-workers, and the public
Good physical health and strength to perform routine duties of lifting and cleaning
Must submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
Must provide proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver's License).
Must provide documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A.
Completion of I-9 form.
Completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.

Responsibilities

Sweeping, dry or wet mopping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming.
Cleaning walls and ceilings, windows, furniture, lights, and bathrooms.
Shampooing carpets.
Moving furniture and other supplies.
Cleaning outside grounds.
Helping to load and unload trucks.
Shoveling and removal of snow and ice.
Cutting grass and trimming.
Opening and closing the building.
Securing the alarm system.
Performing minor maintenance to the building and equipment, including replacement of light bulbs, painting, helping to clean boilers and heating equipment, and care for lawn mowers, trimmers, vacuum cleaners, and buffers.
Driving cars/trucks to pick up equipment, supplies, parts, and mail.
Other related custodial and minor maintenance duties as assigned.
Checking and securing the building at the beginning and end of the shift.
Cleaning rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas according to school district standards.
Stripping and waxing floors.
Cleaning rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds.
Washing walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.
Removing graffiti and cleaning glass areas.
Setting up and breaking down chairs, tables, and equipment in meeting rooms and functional rooms.
Clearing snow from entrances and walks, and spreading sand and ice melting chemicals.
Performing grounds-keeping duties, clearing debris, and maintaining grounds.
Receiving deliveries and assisting in unloading trucks and storing supplies.
Delivering supplies and materials to classrooms, bathrooms, and other areas of the building.
Emptying wastebaskets, picking up and removing trash, and assisting in the recycling program.
