About The Position

This position is responsible for providing general housekeeping and custodial services for the Facilities and Maintenance Department. The Custodian will clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming them. They will gather and empty trash, service, clean, and supply restrooms. Additional duties include cleaning windows, partitions, counter tops and mirrors, dusting furniture, walls, machines and equipment. The role involves mixing cleaning solutions, steam cleaning or shampooing carpets, and stripping, sealing, finishing and polishing floors. The Custodian must follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage. They will also inspect grounds surrounding the building and pick up trash, clean up areas where people have become ill, and transfer biohazard material for disposal. The primary goal is to ensure safe and sanitary building conditions.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Three to six months of custodial experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Must have dependable transportation.
• Ability to read a variety of informational documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures related to the job of Custodian.
• Ability to write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech.
• Ability to speak with and before other with poise, voice control, and confidence using correct English and a well-modulated voice.
• Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages; and determine time and weight.
• Ability to learn and understand basic principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to the job as Custodian.
• Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and tools such as stripping machines, vacuum cleaners, carpet machine and high-speed buffer, etc.
• Must be physically able to work, move or carry objects or material.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb or balance.
• Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities
