About The Position

Cleans and sanitizes the facility and performs minor maintenance tasks. The Custodian will maintain the cleanliness of the facility, follow a daily schedule to complete cleaning tasks, and use appropriate equipment and janitorial supplies to clean and sanitize. They will also perform maintenance repairs such as painting and changing light bulbs, and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to buildings and grounds. Additionally, the Custodian will maintain the cleanliness of the grounds surrounding the facility, remove garbage, sweep, and remove snow when necessary. They must adhere to YMCA Buffalo Niagara’s Youth Protection Policies and OSHA safety standards.

Requirements

• Minimum of one year of experience in housekeeping, and/or custodial work.
• Working knowledge of the tools and equipment used to complete cleaning tasks and minor maintenance projects.
• Ability to read, write, understand, and follow directions.
• Ability to work well with others.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanliness of the facility.
• Follow the daily schedule to complete cleaning tasks throughout the facility.
• Follow facility protocol to clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
• Use the appropriate equipment and janitorial supplies to clean and sanitize.
• Perform work to meet/exceed cleanliness standards.
• Maintain the equipment and reports problems to the supervisor.
• Actively ensure the safety and well-being of all children by adhering to YMCA Buffalo Niagara’s Youth Protection Policies.
• Recognize, respond to, and immediately report any suspected abuse, policy violations, or safety concerns.
• Complete facility maintenance logs as directed.
• Perform maintenance repairs such as painting, changing light bulbs, etc.
• Implement the preventative maintenance plan according to the schedule.
• Complete projects on time and as directed.
• Communicate delays effectively to the supervisor.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the grounds surrounding the facility.
• Remove garbage, sweeps, removes snow when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to buildings and grounds.
• Is knowledgeable of and follow OSHA safety standards, including Hazard Communications.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Report unsafe conditions or building problems to the supervisor.
• Identify problems and take initiative to find appropriate solutions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
