About The Position

The Custodian, 4 Hour, will perform daily cleaning, minor maintenance, yard duties, and assigned tasks in order to provide a clean and healthy learning environment in all school district facilities. Requirements

• One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in large scale housekeeping, custodial, or building and grounds maintenance work.
• Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Writes simple correspondence.
• Effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Must possess basic comprehensive skills of the working English language.
• Add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
• Perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
• Applies common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions.
• Deals with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
• Internal HCPS email system and HCPS district website as appropriate.
• Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling, handling, keyboarding, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, tasting/smelling, near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
• Up to 55 pounds; over 55 pounds requires a 2-person lift.
• Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.
• Extreme cold, extreme heat, wet/humid, noise intensity 3 moderate, work with cleaning chemicals – wear eye protection, vibration/impact, work with or near heavy equipment, proximity to moving mechanical parts, exposure to electrical shock, fumes, or airborne particles.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and burnishes floors, as well as vacuums and shampoos carpets as applicable; cleans, sanitizes, and stocks restrooms; cleans and dusts all horizontal and vertical surfaces as assigned; removes and disposes of waste products daily; maintains clean custodial closets.
• Performs minor non-cleaning maintenance tasks of facility (e.g., changes light bulbs, changes toilet seats, unclogs toilets, changes ceiling tiles, touches up paint, secures windows, delivers supplies, sets up for facility activities/meetings/conferences, assembles and moves furniture).
• Follows a lawn and facility maintenance program, including, but not limited to: mowing (pushing and/or riding), weeding, weed-eating, edging, trimming, fertilizing, minor plant replacement, mulching, blowing off sidewalks/curbs, watering, pressure washing, and graffiti removal, as appropriate.
• Opens, closes, and secures facility, including gates, doors, windows, and alarm systems. Turns on and off all lights, making sure that grounds and facilities are free of debris and hazards. Responds to emergencies by securing the perimeter.
• Performs work duties independently and/or as part of a custodial crew depending upon the nature of the task, works cooperatively in group situations, exhibits tact and consideration, displays a positive outlook and pleasant manner, offers assistance and support to co-workers, and works actively to resolve conflicts.
• Assumes modified duties and responsibilities of the Head Custodian or Custodial Crew Leader in the event of absence or vacancy and by same and other duties as assigned.
• Possess basic comprehensive skills of the working English language.
• Performs any other duties as assigned.
