About The Position

The function of the Custodian is to maintain a clean and safe environment at all times for the program participants and the staff of the Salvation Army's Rich Fleming Hospitality House and Family Shelter. This includes the building and the corresponding grounds. During the winter months this includes snow removal from the sidewalks surrounding the building and parking lot area. The Custodian will also receive and store deliveries, maintain janitorial supplies inventory, provide assistance with special projects and events, and be on call for problems or concerns related to the cleaning, operation and safety of the building. The above list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the candidate will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the post.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Can operate janitorial equipment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 360 (Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher)
  • Able to work with hand tools and small power tools as needed.
  • Able to handle various types of equipment- buffing machine, vacuum, leaf blower, lawn mower, etc.
  • Must treat all people with compassion and respect.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Pennsylvania's Child Protective Services Law requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and PA DHS Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. In addition, completion of a Pennsylvania approved Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training is necessary prior to employment.
  • Must understand and support for the Mission of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains the janitorial/cleaning functions of the Rich Fleming Hospitality House and Family Shelter located at 344 N. 7th Street. This includes the building and the corresponding grounds.
  • During the winter months this includes snow removal from the sidewalks surrounding the building and parking lot area.
  • Receives and stores properly deliveries.
  • Maintains janitorial supplies inventory.
  • Provides assistance with special projects and events.
  • Is on call for problems or concerns related to the cleaning, operation and safety of the building.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
