About The Position

The primary job of the Night lead Custodian is to assist the custodial staff of a building in providing a clean, safe and sanitary environment for the students and staff. Perform a variety of custodial tasks for the building or campus. Will assist with supervising, directing, instructing and training of custodial personnel in routine and non-routine duties, with special emphasis on safety procedures.

Requirements

Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal and others.
Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s).
Knowledge of asbestos information.
Knowledge of mechanical operations.
Knowledge of custodial duties and functions as required by the APPA Level 2 or higher standards.
Knowledge of procedures for hazardous materials and bio-hazardous materials.
Intermediate computer competency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook.
Must be able to read, comprehend and be able to effectively and clearly communicate MSDS information.
Exhibit a professional manner and a positive attitude.
Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building.
Must be detailed oriented.
Ability to perform as an effective team leader, managing employees, budgets and projects.
Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance.
Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them.
Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.

Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.
In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator.
All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position.

Nice To Haves

High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Completion of Proficiency of Custodial Operations certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform daily duties in assigned areas that may include, but not limited to-- Dusting all flat surfaces, Emptying wastebaskets, Emptying pencil sharpeners, Sweeping floors, Straightening desks, Mop and/or spot mop, Cleaning equipment and replacing supplies, Cleaning and servicing restrooms, Sweep assigned hallways, stairs and landings, Lower flag if necessary, Clean gym, locker room, and auditorium, Assist with the clean-up of the lunch room, Clean fountains, Clean sinks, counters, and desk tops, Check the building for vandalism.
Perform weekly duties which may include, but not limited to-- Buff, High dusting, Carpet spotting, Replace light bulbs as needed, Clean whiteboards, Strip, seal and wax floors, Wash walls, lockers and furniture, Clean carpets.
Perform energy management functions such as-- Turn off day lights, turn on night lights, Turn off water in urinals, Unplug water fountains, Check thermostats, Check boiler.
Consult with Building Custodial Supervisor relating to school activities and community use of building and arrange needed services and cleaning.
Respond to office and staff request (including set-up of TV, DVR, audio systems, etc.).
Report building maintenance needs or supplies and equipment needs to Head Custodian.
Secure your area by checking windows, doors and lights before leaving the building.
Inspect assigned area for cleanliness and quality work.
Assist employees with their Employee Performance Appraisal as requested.
Remove marks from floors and graffiti from walls as needed.
Perform duties relating to recycling as requested.
Respond to emergencies in an appropriate manner.
Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
