About The Position

This is a part-time position working 20 hours/week at Popejoy Hall. The Custodian works as part of a four-person staff custodial team, supporting 6 student employees. Popejoy Hall welcomes approximately 250,000 patrons each year. The custodial team performs general custodial maintenance duties including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, and cleaning and restocking restrooms. Providing a clean facility for patrons during performances is paramount to fulfilling the mission and ensuring customer satisfaction. The Custodial team is responsible for three sets of restrooms at Popejoy, plus the green room and artist dressing rooms which house touring companies performing at Popejoy. Additionally, the team is responsible for the upkeep of the Center for the Arts restroom during performances. Part-time employees will focus primarily on cleaning the performance hall after performances. This position will primarily work nights and weekends, after events at Popejoy Hall, approximately 20 hours per week, with shifts primarily starting late at night.

Requirements

Less than high school education.
No previous experience required.
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Ability to understand written and verbal communications and instructions.
Ability to operate vacuums, carpet cleaners, floor buffers and other related equipment.
Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
Ability to use hand and power tools.
Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Must be able to work nights and weekends.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience working in a custodial capacity at a performing arts venue preferred.

Responsibilities

Dusts and mops floors.
Vacuums carpets.
Cleans and maintains seats in the performance hall.
Cleans restrooms and restocks paper and soap supplies.
Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
Empties trash receptacles and bags trash for proper disposal.
May change light bulbs as directed.
Locks doors after cleaning areas.
Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as required.
