About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Custodial Team Member is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment throughout the YMCA facility. This position supports daily operations by ensuring all assigned areas are properly cleaned, stocked, and maintained to YMCA standards. Custodial Team Members play an important role in creating a positive member experience by promoting cleanliness, safety, and excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one-year customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of custodial care.
  • Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner.
  • Ability to work efficiently independently and as part of a team.
  • Display a personal commitment to consistent quality customer service & facility care.
  • Positive attitude and enthusiastic performance of duties.
  • Attention to detail and follow through in execution of all job components.
  • Exceptional attendance.
  • Viewed by members, participants and fellow staff as being helpful and supportive.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift throughout the shift
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and custodial tools
  • Ability to work in various indoor environments including locker rooms and pool areas

Responsibilities

  • Remove trash and recycling from designated areas throughout the facility
  • Vacuum, sweep, mop, and sanitize assigned spaces daily
  • Maintain cleanliness of the front lobby and entrance areas prior to facility opening
  • Clean and sanitize locker rooms, restrooms, showers, and high-touch surfaces
  • Restock restroom and locker room supplies including toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, and body wash
  • Ensure towel stations remain stocked and organized for member use
  • Clean glass surfaces, mirrors, counters, lockers, doors, and windows as assigned
  • Maintain cleanliness and appearance of the pool entryway and surrounding areas
  • Wash, dry, fold, and organize member and facility laundry as assigned
  • Monitor supply inventory levels and notify supervisors when additional supplies are needed
  • Follow YMCA safety procedures, cleaning protocols, and sanitation guidelines
  • Report maintenance concerns, hazards, or unsafe conditions to management immediately
  • Assist with facility set-up and clean-up for special events or programs when needed
  • Provide friendly and professional customer service to members, guests, volunteers, and staff
  • Support the YMCA mission and uphold all YMCA policies and standards
  • Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct.
