About The Position

The position of Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness of all PATCO facilities maintained by the Track & Facilities Department. These include but are not limited to all station facilities (platforms, concourses, lobbies and entrance areas), lavatory facilities, locker room facilities, lunch room facilities, office areas, and other miscellaneous facilities.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test and a background check.
  • Must be able to pass a proficiency examination that addresses all of the required knowledge.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience in performing custodial activities in industrial buildings, office buildings, food service industry buildings, hospital buildings and/or other related facilities. This includes, but will not be limited to, performing custodial activities using industrial cleaning machines such as floor scrubbers, floor buffers, industrial vacuums, high pressure hot water washers, and other similar machines.
  • Must be able to pass a respirator fit test.
  • Must have a working knowledge for safe use of industrial cleaning products and equipment.
  • Individual must be able to manage difficult customer situations and respond to customer needs. The maintenance of confidentiality is essential.
  • The individual must be able to read, understand written and verbal instructions, speak and write clearly in order to communicate effectively.
  • The individual must display openness to others views, must be able to balance team and individual responsibilities. Must contribute to building a positive team spirit by supporting everyone’s efforts to succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all cleaning functions for walking surfaces and stairways (sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, mopping, stain/gum removal, stripping/waxing tile, shampooing carpets); for vertical, horizontal, and overhead surfaces and fixtures (scrubbing, washing, wiping, dusting, polishing, glass cleaning, graffiti removal); for trash collection and disposal (mixed and recyclable trash); and including but not limited to scrubbing and sanitizing all bathroom facilities and cleanup/disposal of infectious waste and/or bio-hazard.
  • Must be able to work a variety of schedules including evening, nights, and/or weekend work and holidays as needed.
  • May be required to drive motor vehicle for trash pick-up/disposal and for transporting custodial equipment.
  • Performs snow shoveling/pushing function for all facilities of PATCO as necessary.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and secure work environment by participating in required training, recognizing and reporting hazards and suspicious activity, and using all required personal protective equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
