About The Position

We are seeking a passionate and mission-driven Custodian to help expand the impact of Shepherd’s House Ministries across all sites and advance this life-changing work. The Custodian is accountable for maintaining clean, safe, orderly, and welcoming environments across Shepherd’s House Ministries’ facilities. Through routine cleaning, sanitation, waste removal, supply restocking, and the timely identification and reporting of maintenance or safety concerns, this role supports the health, safety, dignity, and well-being of participants, staff, volunteers, and guests. Working collaboratively with leadership and program staff, the Custodian helps ensure ministry spaces remain clean, functional, and ready to support the daily mission of Shepherd’s House Ministries.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred, with prior custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or facility cleaning experience preferred.
  • Experience cleaning residential, shelter, ministry, nonprofit, or other high-traffic environments is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently, follow cleaning schedules, use custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals safely, and consistently produce quality work.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, and respect while working in active residential and program environments.
  • Must successfully pass and maintain an acceptable background check.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain clean, sanitary, and organized facilities by cleaning offices, restrooms, kitchens, dining areas, hallways, common areas, meeting spaces, and residential living areas according to established schedules and standards.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, disinfect, and sanitize floors, furniture, fixtures, windows, and other high-touch surfaces to promote a healthy environment.
  • Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms, kitchens, break rooms, laundry areas, and other shared spaces with necessary supplies.
  • Empty trash, recycling, and waste receptacles and ensure proper disposal to maintain clean and safe facilities.
  • Monitor custodial inventory, restock cleaning supplies and paper products, and communicate supply needs promptly.
  • Identify and report maintenance, repair, safety, or sanitation concerns, including damaged equipment, plumbing issues, spills, pest concerns, and other facility hazards.
  • Respond promptly to urgent custodial needs, including spills, accidents, biohazard cleanup, and room turnovers, while following infection control and safety protocols.
  • Assist with deep cleaning projects, seasonal cleaning, and the preparation of rooms and facilities for new residents, meetings, and ministry events.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of building entrances, sidewalks, porches, and other assigned exterior areas to provide a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Safely operate cleaning equipment and chemicals, follow organizational safety procedures, maintain professionalism and confidentiality, and collaborate with staff to support the overall cleanliness and operation of Shepherd's House Ministries' facilities.
