About The Position
Custodial Services at the University of Tennessee at Martin is accepting applications for a full-time custodian. The position supports classroom and administrative operations by helping maintain clean and safe buildings for students, staff, and visitors. The normal schedule is Sunday through Thursday, 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, totaling 40 hours per week; the shift is subject to change. Custodians may be reassigned to another building at any time and may be required to assist with mowing. The minimum hiring rate is $14.00 per hour, with salary commensurate with education and experience.
Requirements
- Typically, a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively and interact positively with coworkers.
- Physical condition suitable for labor tasks, including bending, reaching overhead, lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, and climbing ladders to a height of 20 feet.
- Ability to operate a power washer, buffers, vacuums, shampoo machines, and scrubbers.
- Good work and attendance record.
- Availability for the normal Sunday-through-Thursday, 11:00 PM–7:00 AM schedule, subject to change.
Nice To Haves
- Experience and knowledge of custodial equipment, including its operation and safe use.
- Experience and knowledge in the use and safety of cleaning chemicals.
Responsibilities
- Perform custodial duties to support classroom and administrative operations and maintain a clean, safe environment.
- Pull trash and recycling.
- Clean and restock restrooms and perform general building cleaning.
- Change light bulbs.
- Maintain floors by stripping and waxing, dust mopping and wet mopping, scrubbing and buffing, vacuuming, and extracting carpets.
- Maintain sufficient custodial supplies for assigned areas.
- Report safety concerns and maintenance issues to the immediate supervisor.
- Tear down tables and chairs after special events and sweep and clean bleachers after ball games.
- Assist with mowing duties when required.
- Move to another building when assigned.
