About The Position

We are looking to hire a hard-working custodian to add to our team. Our custodial team is responsible for providing a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment for our government partners. This custodian will be responsible for ensuring the buildings and areas that we are responsible for are tidy, clean, and well-maintained.

Requirements

  • Required to perform duties in multiple buildings throughout the same campus.
  • Required to work in a team or independently.
  • Required to pass a federal background check, drug test and physical and obtain the appropriate security clearance.
  • Required to lift, carry, push, and pull 50 lbs. repetitively.
  • Requires a lot of physical labor, and requires lifting, stretching, crutching and other movements associated with the cleaning of office, lab, warehouse, cafeteria, restroom, locker room, storage, and industrial areas.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders and work at heights or difficult positions.
  • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods, and procedures.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, and reach for hours.
  • Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, other similar equipment, and cleaning solutions.
  • Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules.
  • Communication skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Basic reading and comprehension skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment.
  • Ensure buildings and areas are tidy, clean, and well-maintained.
  • Perform snow removal, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, dusting surfaces, and floor restoration and maintenance.
  • Clean walls, restrooms, locker rooms, office space, warehouses, ceilings, windows, and other assigned spaces and tasks.
  • Prevent and eliminate indoor pests.
  • Report damage & safety hazards.
  • Remove waste.
  • Prioritize tasks and take pride in work.
  • Keep buildings, equipment, and property clean, safe and well maintained.
  • Perform routine floor and equipment maintenance activities.
  • Perform heavy cleaning tasks including high dusting and deep grime removal.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, extract, strip, wax and vacuum floors.
  • Gather and empty trash, compost, recycling and other various waste and recycling materials.
  • Scrub, sanitize, and replenish supplies in breakroom, restroom, locker-room and other such areas.
  • Dust and clean furniture, walls, ledges, windows, doors, vents, light fixtures and more.
  • Clean windows, mirrors, and partitions.
  • Properly use and prepare cleaning solutions and chemicals in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions and ensure containers with chemical are the proper label.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Clean and polish fixtures and furniture.
  • Extract, bonnet, mop, scrub or clean carpets and rugs to maintain look of the space.
  • Properly dispose of waste in the correct container and make sure it is accurately tracked.
  • Help manage inventory of cleaning supplies by communication with supervisors regarding any needs.
  • Cover for team members leave and return equipment back where it was found.
  • Perform floor restoration such as but not limited to stripping & waxing.
  • Perform high cleaning up to 26 feet with the use of ladder or lift.

Benefits

  • Retirement benefit of $5.00 an hour, up to 40 hours a week and 2,080 hours a year.
  • While using large equipment for floor care there is a $2.00 per hour increase in wage.
  • Vision, Dental and Health insurance are provided by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No.1, after the probationary period of 30 days and the receipt and approval of all union documents.
  • 7 Sick leave and 2 PTO days are also provided after 30 days but will be prorated based on date of hire.
  • Vacation time will be available after 6 months of continues service at accrued rate.
