About The Position

The 2nd Shift Custodian at Woodland Elementary is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency of district facilities, equipment, and grounds. This role involves performing a wide range of housekeeping, repair, and maintenance tasks to ensure a conducive environment for learning and community engagement. The custodian will assume full responsibility for the duties of the position, communicate effectively with building personnel and supervisors, and contribute to the overall smooth operation of the facility.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Must obtain MN Specialist boiler license to get Class 2 pay plus the Shift Differential
  • Computer skills, including proper use of email communication
  • Knowledge of proper operation of building automation systems
  • Knowledge of hand, power, diagnostic tools, and equipment required in the performance of the job
  • Knowledge of all safety precautions applicable to trade
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals and procedures of HVAC operation, repair, and proactive/reactive maintenance
  • General knowledge in the principles of general repair and maintenance in such areas as mechanical, electrical, steam, air system, carpentry, and masonry or plumbing
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and materials
  • Caring for and repairing facilities and equipment
  • Working with the principal and building staff on correcting issues as they arise
  • Responding effectively to student, staff and community needs
  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Using problem solving techniques

Responsibilities

  • Assume full responsibility daily of the position being subbed for.
  • Communicate work allocation directives issued by the Coordinator and/or Assistant Coordinator, Facilities Operations and building principal to the building custodial personnel.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks including dust mopping and wet mopping floors, cleaning restrooms, stripping and sealing floors, washing windows and walls, vacuuming carpets, and performing housekeeping according to established district systems and cleaning standards.
  • Perform minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs.
  • Provide support to kitchen staff by mopping floors, unloading groceries, and stocking supplies.
  • Monitor and adjust building automation controls.
  • Secure the facility by arming and disarming the security system.
  • Report vandalism or unauthorized individuals in buildings.
  • Maintain building grounds, including watering, mowing, trimming, pruning, weeding, and removing debris.
  • Perform snow removal and keep sidewalks free of ice.
  • Take charge of all aspects of the physical operation of the building.
  • Report equipment breakdowns to the Assistant Coordinator, Maintenance Services.
  • Maintain and submit all appropriate reports and logs in a timely manner.
  • Paint district facilities.
  • Maintain building equipment per department guidelines.
  • Operate and maintain the boiler, ensuring appropriate operation.
  • Set up and take down equipment such as tables, chairs, and band shells.
  • Respond to questions and provide excellent customer service to facility users.
  • Perform other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.
