About The Position

This is a transfer opportunity, and first consideration is given to qualified transfer-eligible employees in the job classification family. If no qualified internal candidate is selected, external applicants will be considered. This recruitment may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates to fill future Custodian positions at the South Treatment Plant for Career Service vacancies within the Wastewater Treatment Division over the next 6 months. The Wastewater Treatment Division transforms wastewater into valuable resources for the King County community. The primary function of the Custodian is to maintain the cleanliness of interiors and exteriors of various office and industrial facilities at South Plant.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic janitorial cleaning techniques.
  • Knowledge in the use and care of cleaning equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic safety rules and procedures to ensure the safety of yourself and co-workers.
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning chemicals.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to demonstrate behaviors that include fairness, respect, and inclusiveness.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a work environment that embraces and encourages diversity in its workforce and where differences are valued.
  • Washington State Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) or more years of recent professional industrial cleaning/janitorial work experience

Responsibilities

  • Strip, wax and scrub various types of floors; vacuum and extract dirt from carpets and machine-buff floors.
  • Clean, stock and sanitize restrooms, kitchens, and public spaces including tables, chairs, toilets, showers, sinks and walls.
  • As directed, mix and use cleaning solutions and chemicals.
  • Dust, wash and vacuum surfaces.
  • Request and stock various types of supplies.
  • Empty trash.
  • Monitor and report any building, equipment, or safety issues to staff.
  • Support grounds maintenance including litter pickup and occasional outdoor tasks.
  • Follow established safety protocols and contribute to a culture of health and safety.
  • Clean glass windows and surfaces.
  • May research and prepare bid specifications for cleaning equipment and supplies.
