About The Position

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position performs routine custodial, minor maintenance, and groundskeeping duties to ensure school facilities and equipment remain clean, functional, and well-maintained. The Custodian contributes to the overall success of the school by promoting a positive environment that supports student learning and organizational excellence.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred.
Basic reading, writing, communication, and math skills.
Knowledge of custodial methods, equipment, materials, and safety procedures.
Ability to operate custodial equipment, hand tools, ladders, and snow removal equipment.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations and chemical safety.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform frequent physical activity.
Valid Colorado driver's license preferred.

Nice To Haves

One (1) to two (2) years of custodial, facilities, or maintenance experience preferred.
Experience in a school or educational environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gyms, and assigned areas daily.
Clean and disinfect restrooms and replenish supplies.
Vacuum carpets, sweep and mop floors, and operate floor maintenance equipment.
Dust surfaces and clean interior/exterior glass.
Collect and dispose of trash and recycling.
Maintain custodial equipment and supply inventory.
Perform routine groundskeeping and inspect playground equipment (elementary campus).
Assist with snow and ice removal to maintain safe walkways.
Complete minor maintenance repairs and report larger maintenance issues.
Set up and tear down furniture and equipment for meetings and special events.
Follow OSHA and school safety procedures when handling chemicals and equipment.
Wear appropriate work attire and PPE.
Work cooperatively with staff, students, parents, and visitors while supporting the mission of The Vanguard School.
Perform other duties as assigned.
