About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Recreation Superintendent, this position performs a wide range of custodial tasks of routine difficulty involving the use of cleaning equipment and materials, and event setup. The role also includes performing other related duties as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Florida driver's license is required. Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license must obtain a Florida driver's license within 10 days of employment.
• Knowledge of building/office cleaning processes, supplies, and equipment.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to read directions on cleaning supplies.
• Ability to perform routine physical custodial duties without immediate supervision.
• Ability to operate hand tools and power equipment.
• Ability to work effectively with other employees.
• Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required.
• Ability to work all days of the week and at various times as required.
• Ability to hear, speak, and understand conversation in a normal tone of voice.
• Ability to see, read, and write.
• Ability to use small hand tools which require the use of hands, wrists, and fingers.
• Ability to move back and forth and sideways while in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position.
• Ability to stay in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position for periods less than 10 minutes.
• Ability to go from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling, or squatting position, or vice-versa, periodically.
• Ability to walk, stand, and sit for periods longer than 30 minutes but not to exceed 8 hours consecutively.
• Ability to walk continuously for more than 5 minutes at a time throughout the working day.
• Ability to lift, carry, push and pull items which weigh up to 50 pounds over uneven terrain, up/down stairs or ladders.
• Ability to carry items for a distance which ranges from 10 feet to no more than 300 yards.
• Ability to lift and/or carry items which are considered awkward to grasp or hold on to.
• Ability to lift items (weighing no more than 50 pounds) above the head or down from over the head.
• Ability to hold items (weighing 1 to 50 pounds) for a period less than 10 minutes.
• Ability to work in undesirable conditions including dust, dirt, heat, humidity, and chemicals.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps, mops, polishes, and vacuums floors.
• Washes walls, windows, woodwork, and mirrors.
• Cleans all restrooms and fixtures, checks and stocks supplies, and ensures lavatory installations are working, reporting those that need repair.
• Removes and disposes of all rubbish and trash in designated areas.
• Sets up and breaks down tables and chairs for scheduled events.
• Cleans outdoor grounds and removes rubbish.
• Answers phones when necessary.
