About The Position

Manhattan Children’s Center (MCC) is seeking a positive, dynamic Custodian who is interested in joining a therapeutic team where the goal is to offer every child the opportunity to thrive. At MCC we emphasize staff training and mentoring that is facilitated through close supervision and consistent professional training and development with 5 days per year of guest speakers, workshops, and open forums. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in custodial, maintenance, facilities, or building operations preferred.
  • Experience working in a school, office, healthcare, or similar facility is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures, sanitation practices, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to safely operate basic cleaning equipment and tools.
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment as required.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with staff and building personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of classrooms, offices, bathrooms, common areas, and other designated areas.
  • Sweep, mop, and maintain floors throughout the building.
  • Empty and dispose of trash and recycling from classrooms, offices, bathrooms, and common areas.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, floors, and other fixtures.
  • Clean and maintain classrooms, including desks, surfaces, floors, and other frequently used areas.
  • Clean and maintain administrative offices and shared workspaces.
  • Restock bathroom and cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Assist with general building upkeep and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment.
  • Perform minor building repairs and basic maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, and addressing minor issues as needed.
  • Identify and report maintenance, safety, or repair concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Follow established health, safety, and sanitation procedures at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
