About The Position

The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform custodial duties at an assigned facility within the City of Charleston. This class works under close supervision according to set procedures. This position will be expected to work a designated schedule established by the Department Head. It is also expected this position will work other and/or additional hours including nights, weekends and/or holidays as necessary or requested in order to accomplish departmental goals.

Requirements

Requires six months of custodial experience or closely related experience.

Responsibilities

Performs custodial tasks including but not limited to the following: empties trash, cleans bathrooms, vacuums, sweeps, and mops floors, dusts surfaces, strips, waxes and buffs floors, cleans glass doors and windows, opens and closes facilities.
Loads and stocks the custodian cart; fills mop bucket; stocks paper towels, toilet paper and other supplies in facilities.
Cleans stairwells, lobbies and elevators.
Moves furniture; empties shredder; moves files.
Gathers trash and debris on the grounds; empties outside garbage cans; sweeps sidewalks and outside areas.
Performs light security work while on duty.
Delivers or retrieves mail.
Assists with small repairs.
