About The Position

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment by performing various cleaning and maintenance tasks. This role requires adherence to agency policies, contract specifications, and safety procedures. The Custodian will clean assigned areas, including restrooms, common areas, offices, and specialized facilities, ensuring they meet hygiene and appearance standards. The position involves routine cleaning, disinfection, trash removal, and occasional special restoration work. The role also includes assisting with inventory, equipment maintenance, and floor care. As essential personnel, this position may require working during institutional emergencies. The role is part of the AbilityOne Program, providing employment opportunities for individuals with significant disabilities.

Requirements

Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time.
Ability to go up and down stairs.
Ability to reach above the head, bend, kneel, and stoop.
Ability to lift, carry, and push up to 25 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. as needed.
Ability to work in dusty spaces or adverse weather conditions.
Ability to see details on the floor, above the head, or on surfaces.

High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Six months of custodial work experience preferred.
Candidates with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

Comply with all Agency policies and procedures and follow contract specifications.
Comply with uniform dress code and personal hygiene standards.
Clean all assigned areas in accordance with the contract specifications.
Clean and disinfect restrooms and washable surfaces in public areas.
Descale showers, toilet bowls, and urinals.
Keep restrooms supplied with required paper products and soap.
Perform routine glass and mirror cleaning.
Scrub tile and wash walls.
Vacuum area rugs and carpets; sweep and mop floors.
Pull trash and recycling and place in proper receptacles.
Dust various surfaces, polish furniture and metal, clean glass tabletops.
Clean and disinfect kitchenettes and break rooms.
Clean and disinfect fitness centers, health centers, and child care centers.
Clean walls, partitions, window blinds, and window sills as required by contract.
Clean corners, crevices, moldings, ledges, door jams, metal strips, and overhead surfaces.
Clean elevators, escalators, and stairwells.
Clean and police building exteriors, garages, and janitor closets.
Keep tools and supplies clean and orderly.
Empty and clean any public ashtrays and urns.
Spot clean, service restrooms, and police trash.
Perform or assist with special restoration work, as required.
Move, arrange, and lift heavy items.
Perform emergency cleaning.
Attend work regularly and report on time.
Attend required meetings and in-service training.
Pass and comply with all building and security requirements and procedures.
Assist with inventory.
Clean and maintain equipment.
Strip, refinish, wax, burnish, buff floors, and clean carpets as required by contract.
Maintain floors including porches and steps at entrances.
Assist with special events by setting up and taking down furniture.
Apply ice melt as required by contract.
Perform other duties and tasks as needed.
