Part-time Custodian
About The Position
Independence Preparatory Academy is seeking a Part-Time Custodian to support the daily cleanliness, safety, and readiness of our school building. This individual reports to the Dean of School Operations and ensures that all spaces are consistently clean, welcoming, and ready for learning. Requirements
- Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred (school setting a plus)
- Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Ability to perform physical tasks and lift up to 50 lbs
- Must pass a background check in compliance with Alabama state law
Responsibilities
- Clean classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and common areas
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect surfaces
- Empty trash and manage waste disposal
- Refill soap, paper towels, and sanitizer dispensers
- Ensure all spaces are clean and ready for the next school day
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness across all areas
- Perform minor maintenance tasks as needed
- Report facility issues or safety concerns promptly
- Monitor cleaning supplies and notify leadership of needs
- Assist with setup and breakdown for school events (as needed)
- Support daily closing procedures (reset spaces, secure building if applicable)
