About The Position
The Custodian is responsible for cleaning, housekeeping, and maintenance of buildings and facilities to ensure a safe and clean working environment. This role provides quality environmental services to assigned campus/site to maintain a safe and healthy environment for students and staff. The Custodian will sweep, mop, and wax floors; wash windows and walls and place temporary patches for broken windows and doors; scour and polish tile, porcelain, mirrors, and metal fixtures; and clean and arrange furniture. They will also clean outside walkways, power wash exterior walls and surfaces, and empty trash receptacles. Additionally, the Custodian will clean, sanitize, and restock supplies in locker rooms and restrooms, secure buildings by ensuring doors and windows are intact and locked, and lights are out. This role assists in the setup for and cleanup after activities, replaces damaged ceiling tiles, light bulbs, and tubes, and makes minor repairs on fixtures, furniture, and equipment. The Custodian reports any damage or necessary repairs to their immediate supervisor. This position supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff, maintaining absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information, and following Governing Board Policies. Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent; or with at least six months in custodial practices; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to operate custodial equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, and extractors.
- Ability to read and follow warning labels on supplies, cleaning solutions, and hazardous materials.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Skill in planning, prioritizing, and completing assignments with minimum supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.
- Commitment to create and sustain a thriving learning and working environment for students and staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to use initiative within organizational policies, procedures and guidelines.
