About The Position

The Custodian is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing facilities, including restrooms, break rooms, offices, and other areas. This role involves maintaining floors, disposing of trash and recycling, and ensuring outdoor areas are clean. The Custodian also manages supplies and equipment, performs light maintenance tasks, and secures buildings. Reporting any maintenance or safety hazards to the supervisor is a key duty.

Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
  • Specific knowledge of administrative processes and practices, typically learned “on the job,” or which may include a series of training sessions.
  • Maintains current knowledge of standards of care and practices as typically acquired through continuing education.
  • Prepares basic correspondence and simple reports in Microsoft Word.
  • Uses Microsoft Excel to create tables and simple displays of information.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with all electronic systems required for the position.
  • Functions effectively in response to workflow or ongoing direction by supervisors.
  • Effectively selects from pre-established alternatives to resolve situations encountered on the job.
  • Able to effectively communicate opinions drawn from conclusions using inference and logic.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and sanitizes facilities, including restrooms, break rooms, offices, and other areas.
  • Sweeps, mops, vacuums, and maintains floors according to facility standards.
  • Disposes of trash and recycling properly and ensures waste receptacles are emptied regularly.
  • Follows safety guidelines, including using cleaning chemicals properly and handling hazardous materials according to regulations.
  • Maintains outdoor areas, such as sweeping sidewalks and clearing debris.
  • Maintains and organizes cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Performs light maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, fixing minor leaks, or repairing simple facility issues.
  • Locks and secures buildings as needed.
  • Reports any maintenance or safety hazards to the supervisor.
