About The Position
This role involves being responsible for maintaining City of Morgantown owned and leased buildings. The Custodian performs various janitorial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors, shampooing and vacuuming carpets, cleaning windows, restrooms, furniture, surfaces, walls, and stairs. They are also responsible for taking out trash and recycling, informing purchasers when new supplies are needed, and stocking restrooms and kitchens. Additionally, the Building Maintenance Custodian maintains cleaning equipment and manages supplies inventory.
Requirements
- High school degree or equivalent (GED)
- Less than one year of experience required
Nice To Haves
- Possession of a valid State of West Virginia drivers’ license
Responsibilities
- Collects and removes all interior solid waste and cleans up litter both inside and outside the public buildings daily.
- Cleans windows, tables, chairs, walls and floors, and dusts shelves.
- Maintains cleaning equipment and supplies inventory and determines the correct type and proper use of caustic, acidic and solvent cleaning chemicals and agents.
- Cleans restrooms including sinks, toilets, mirrors, walls, floors, and restocks soap and paper supplies as needed.
- Mops, strips, waxes, and sprays buff floors, shampoos and vacuums carpet and fabric furniture.
- May be required to coordinate contracted cleaning services like exterior windows, commercial carpet cleaning, steam cleaning, etc.
- May be required to coordinate pest control, elevator maintenance, etc.
- Identify and report possible repairs.
- Promotes a professional, courteous service as a representative of the City of Morgantown.
- Performs related work and duties as needed or assigned by supervisor.
