About The Position

The Night Custodian maintains assigned school spaces and facilities at Proviso Math & Science Academy. The role includes daily and nightly cleaning and disinfection of classrooms, washrooms, hallways, stairwells, common areas, gymnasiums, locker rooms, and offices; restocking washroom supplies; and preparing assigned spaces for daily use. The position also performs minor repairs, maintains cleaning equipment, assists with event setup and takedown, reports major maintenance concerns, and handles assigned seasonal duties such as snow and ice removal and floor waxing. Additional duties may be assigned by the administration. The position is full-time, non-exempt, with a 1.0 FTE and an anticipated 260-day, 12-month work year. The work is governed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement and district personnel policies.

Requirements

• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety procedures.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Strong organizational, time-management, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Physical ability to lift, bend, climb stairs, stand for extended periods, and perform manual labor.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous custodial or facilities maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Dust-mop classroom floors nightly, disinfect high-touch surfaces and furniture, empty trash and replace liners, wash interior and fire-door glass, remove graffiti, and keep classrooms and offices orderly and ready for daily use.
• Wash blackboards and whiteboards and their trays three times per week, and wash erasers nightly.
• Enter building repair requests in SchoolDude and close them out when complete; report major concerns to the building lead.
• Disinfect washroom fixtures and touch areas nightly; clean walls and mirrors, restock paper products and soap, mop floors with disinfectant, and empty trash and replace liners.
• Disinfect high-touch areas in hallways and common areas; dust-mop corridors at the beginning and end of the shift, maintain their appearance, clean lockers and dust-collecting surfaces, and remove graffiti and spills from walls.
• Wet-mop stairwells at least twice weekly and clean hallway corners, baseboards, and wax buildup.
• Clean gymnasiums, locker rooms, showers, and physical education spaces nightly in accordance with CDC guidelines, including flat surfaces, machinery, and hardware.
• Perform minor repairs and maintain cleaning equipment.
• Assist with event setups and takedowns as required.
• Perform assigned snow removal and ice management on walkways, entrances, and parking areas; assist with seasonal maintenance such as floor waxing, facility winterization, and general upkeep.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administration.
