About The Position

Hawaiian Building Maintenance (HBM) is seeking a Part-time Custodian to join their team in Honolulu, HI. HBM, founded in 1957, is a full-service asset services partner that has been supporting buildings and communities across the Hawaiian Islands for over 60 years. This role involves maintaining the cleanliness and safety of common areas, offices, storage, and docking areas within commercial, retail, and residential properties. The ideal candidate will be committed to maintaining a safe and pleasant environment, possess attention to detail, and be willing to learn and work independently or as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Must pass HBM prescreen check
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English
  • Capable of performing basic manual labor, cleaning common areas, frequently lifting, pushing, pressing, pulling, and carrying a minimum of 30 lbs. (up to 50 lbs.), reaching overhead, grasping objects, bending, kneeling, crawling, squatting, climbing, stretching, walking up and down stairways, using elevators, climbing ladders, and standing throughout shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • Previous experience in custodial, housekeeping, or related fields preferred, but not required
  • Forklift certification is preferred but not mandatory; we are willing to provide training
  • Valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle is preferred
  • Strong public relations and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Capable of performing tasks in any type of weather.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of common areas within the building: Sweep, mop, dust, wipe down, and sanitize surfaces; empty trash receptacles; and dispose of waste in the designated areas.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and pleasant environment for all occupants is a vital quality for this role.
  • Clean office, storage, and docking areas.
  • Ensure restrooms are fully stocked, clean and sanitized.
  • Utilize a vacuum for indoor cleaning.
  • Operate a forklift once HBM training has been successfully completed.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate: A pressure washing machine, leaf blower, ride-on and/or ride-behind machine.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn is essential.
  • Restock supplies as needed.
  • Show the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the HBM supervisor.
