This position is for a CUSTODIAN at OCHS Job Class #7609, 6 hours/260 days. The primary goal of this role is the proper and timely completion of all assigned cleaning, ground care, setup and moving, and painting tasks in accordance with established procedures. The custodian will be responsible for maintaining buildings, locker rooms, and adjacent grounds areas in a clean, orderly, and secure condition. This includes performing routine custodial activities, using cleaning materials and equipment according to standards, and learning appropriate safety precautions. The role also involves performing minor non-technical repairs, observing and reporting maintenance needs, and performing heavy physical labor. The custodian must be able to understand and follow directions, meet schedules, and communicate effectively. Physical requirements include walking, bending, lifting, pushing, and standing for extended periods, as well as working outside under adverse conditions and inside after heating/cooling is turned off. This position also requires working weekend shifts, holidays, and providing "on-call" coverage. The custodian must practice safety precautions and be safety conscious at all times, reporting any maintenance needs or unsafe conditions to their supervisor. Specific tasks include disinfecting and cleaning restrooms, dusting, spot cleaning, collecting trash, vacuuming, mopping, floor refinishing, re-supplying dispensers, and polishing furniture. Operation and maintenance of powered cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers and vacuums are also required, along with non-powered equipment like mops and brooms. Grounds care tasks include mowing, edging, trimming, watering, fertilizing, and applying treatments, as well as picking up trash and cleaning sidewalks. Operation and maintenance of powered grounds care equipment like mowers and blowers are necessary, along with non-powered equipment such as shovels and axes. The role also involves manual labor for moving furniture and equipment, setting up for events, and loading/unloading trucks. Participation in off-shift, weekend, holiday, and "on-call" coverage is required. Demonstrating loyalty and dedication to the Ohio County Schools is expected, along with performing other duties as directed.
