About The Position

Hawaiian Building Maintenance (HBM) is seeking a Part-time Custodian to join their team. HBM, founded in 1957, has evolved into a full-service asset services partner across the Hawaiian Islands, offering janitorial, mechanical, HVAC, maintenance, and restoration services. They are committed to dependable service, local relationships, and accountable execution. This role involves maintaining the cleanliness and safety of common areas, offices, storage, and docking areas within buildings, ensuring restrooms are stocked and sanitized, and performing various cleaning tasks. The ideal candidate will be capable of working in different weather conditions, demonstrate attention to detail, and be willing to learn and work independently or as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Must pass HBM prescreen check
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English
  • Capable of performing basic manual labor, cleaning common areas, frequently lifting, pushing, pressing, pulling, and carrying a minimum of 30 lbs. (up to 50 lbs.), reaching overhead, grasping objects, bending, kneeling, crawling, squatting, climbing, stretching, walking up and down stairways, using elevators, climbing ladders, and standing throughout shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • Previous experience in custodial, housekeeping, or related fields preferred, but not required
  • Forklift certification is preferred but not mandatory; we are willing to provide training
  • Valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle is preferred
  • Strong public relations and communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn is essential
  • Show the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Capable of performing tasks in any type of weather.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of common areas within the building: Sweep, mop, dust, wipe down, and sanitize surfaces; empty trash receptacles; and dispose of waste in the designated areas.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and pleasant environment for all occupants is a vital quality for this role.
  • Clean office, storage, and docking areas.
  • Ensure restrooms are fully stocked, clean and sanitized.
  • Utilize a vacuum for indoor cleaning.
  • Operate a forklift once HBM training has been successfully completed.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate: A pressure washing machine, leaf blower, ride-on and/or ride-behind machine.
  • Restock supplies as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the HBM supervisor
