About The Position

The Custodian is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the upkeep of Church properties and facilities. The Custodian incumbent will interface with Church officers, members, staff and all other persons who come to participate in the life of this Church and/or conduct business on the premises. This position works under the day-to-day supervision of the Supervisor, Maintenance or his/her designee.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two to three years work experience in a hospitality or facilities cleaning environment.
  • Knowledge of general office cleaning methods and practices.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Good command of basic verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and with difficult situations.
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull, and push items up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • Ability to tolerate extended periods of standing, walking, and noise.
  • Normal hearing and vision or correctable hearing and vision to normal levels.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms, offices, class rooms, common spaces and all facets of the facilities; and stocks facilities with paper and supplies.
  • Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
  • Maintains cleanliness of carpeted and tile floors. Responsible for sweeping, mopping, waxing, vacuuming, washing, and polishing of glass surfaces, i.e., doors and dividers.
  • Cleans and lines wastebaskets and garbage containers; dusts and polishes furniture surfaces and sanitizes telephones.
  • Responsible for grounds keeping, removal of snow, and/or other debris from lawn and parking lots.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
  • Arranges furniture and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classes, special events, etc.
  • Assists skilled maintenance workers with projects (e.g. transporting and/or securing materials, completing specific tasks, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Works to ensure event/room set-ups are completed accurately, safely and efficiently.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Performs other routine maintenance duties, as assigned.
