About The Position

The Custodian/Security Guard III is responsible for janitorial services of the clinic, (i.e., the building, offices and clinical spaces) as well as overseeing traffic through the main entrance of the facility, providing information and assistance to members, and maintaining the safety of employees, members and the facility. The Custodian/Security Guard III will perform a variety of semi-skilled to skilled tasks in the maintenance care of the building and surrounding areas. The Native American Health Center is an accredited institution and adheres to the standards of excellence set forth by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least three (3) years of experience of custodial work.
  • Previous experience in maintenance work is required.
  • OSHA and CPR training required annually.
  • Possession of Guard Card or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire is required. Must be able to meet the Guard Card eligibility requirements listed on the Bureau of Security & Investigative Services. Must be able to maintain a valid Guard Card during employment.
  • Significant dexterity of hands and fingers to operate custodial equipment, power tools and manipulate objects.
  • Sitting, standing or walking for extended periods of time and on uneven ground
  • Regular lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and/or moving moderate to heavy objects
  • Reaching overhead, above/below shoulders, and horizontally to retrieve and store equipment and supplies
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Climbing, balancing, and working at heights
  • Knowledge of the Bay Area Native American community with a commitment to serving Native Americans and other vulnerable patient populations.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Must provide TB and Physical clearance prior to start date.
  • Must obtain CPR certification within 90 days and kept current at all times.
  • Vaccination Level 1: Must provide TB, Physical, seasonal flu and proof of Vaccination immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, TDAP & Hepatitis B, prior to start date. If vaccination records are more than 10 years old, titers are required to confirm immunity.

Additionally, you may be asked to get a Department of Justice Fingerprinting and/or Federal, State, County criminal background check clearance as a contingency for an offer of employment. Criminal clearances are obtained to protect the welfare and safety of clients receiving services at NAHC.

Responsibilities

  • Performs custodial and routine maintenance duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, emptying trash receptacles, waxing, polishing, washing walls, weeding, and sanitizing restrooms, clinic exam and treatment rooms.
  • Perform routine scheduled maintenance of facilities and its grounds (e.g. strip/wax floors, move furniture, landscaping, as applicable).
  • Safely and effectively operates tools, equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and effective manner
  • Replace light bulbs and/or fluorescent tubes.
  • Perform moderate plumbing repairs, like replacing faucet washers or unclogging drains.
  • Complete moderate carpentry work, such as repairing furniture, removal of existing base boards, and painting the interior of building.
  • Complete minor painting tasks, such as touch ups, patching of walls and doors
  • Assists with basic electrical repairs like replacing switches or fixtures
  • Provide work guidance to lower level custodial personnel during tasks and projects.
  • Assist with training assigned personnel to develop and/or improve professional trade and safety awareness.
  • Inspects work performed by personnel in training or lower level to ensure adherence to proper cleaning and maintenance procedures.
  • The Custodian/Security Guard III will work occasional evenings and weekends to meet project timelines as needed.
  • Member Care: Demonstrate understanding and apply working knowledge of safety policies and ensuring safe member practices.
  • Employee Safety: Safely performs all duties, follows required protective protocols to ensure personal safety as well as the safety of others.
  • Must maintain compliance with ergonomic safety standards, be mindful of posture, and regularly practice ergonomic stretches.
  • Quality Improvement: Actively participate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards, when assigned.
  • HIPAA: Keep all protected health information (PHI) confidential and abide by HIPAA policies for the release and disclosure of any PHI. Will report unauthorized use of disclosure of PHI immediately, to supervisor or HIPAA security officer.
  • Work well under pressure, and meet multiple and often competing deadlines.
  • At all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with supervisors, subordinates, colleagues, clients, and the community.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned needed.
