About The Position

Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Custodian/Porter for their Families w/ Children facility in Staten Island, NY. This role is pivotal in ensuring a clean, well-maintained, and safe environment for families in the facility. Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC, providing more than just a place to sleep. Families can access an array of onsite programs, many of which are also available to the local community, with the goal of having a positive impact so families can thrive long after leaving the shelters.

Requirements

Experience in custodial work.
Familiar with the proper use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
Ability to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift, up to 60 pounds.
Be able to stand for long periods of time (up to 9 hours).

Responsibilities

Performs general cleaning and custodial duties in the common areas of the facility.
Assists in cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and cafeteria.
Ensures cleaning supplies are stocked.
Vacuum, sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors using brooms, mops or powered machines to strip floors.
Clean and turnover units.
Dust and Disinfect furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
Assists in examining the building for safety hazards, reports deficiencies to Director of Building Operations.
Performs limited grounds maintenance such as mowing and cleaning snow from sidewalks.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
