About The Position

This temporary position is responsible for maintaining center buildings and grounds in top condition. The role involves developing work plans for maintenance and repair activities, ensuring the availability of necessary tools, equipment, and materials, and minimizing disruption to daily operations. Responsibilities include assembly and minor repair of equipment/furniture, painting, plumbing, lighting, and yard and window maintenance. The position also involves developing routine preventative maintenance schedules and maintaining inventory. Inspire Development Centers provides Early Childhood Education (ECE) and social services to children across Washington State, employing over 1,000 staff and managing a significant annual budget. The organization operates under various federal and state funded programs, requiring adherence to specific regulations. A large portion of the children's primary language is Spanish. Inspire has a long history of adapting to community needs.

Requirements

  • General Educational Development (GED) certificate, or obtain within the first year of employment.
  • Extensive knowledge in building maintenance and custodial practices.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Must provide a yearly driving abstract.
  • Must maintain acceptable driving history.
  • Proof of automobile insurance.
  • Ability to travel to perform job duties and responsibilities.
  • Must pass initial and periodic background check.
  • MMR immunization record or proof of immunity.
  • Must pass initial and periodic employee health clearance (present it within forty-five (45) days of employment).
  • Current Food Handler card (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment).
  • Current First Aid / CPR cards (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment).
  • Subject to initial and periodic TB screen.
  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV / AIDS) training (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment).
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment).
  • Subject to drug and/or alcohol testing per IDC Drug and Alcohol policy.
  • Must sign a Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Must complete any/all required training related to the position.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, cleaning, and disinfecting classrooms, restrooms, kitchen, and other common areas.
  • Disposing of all garbage and disinfecting wastebaskets or garbage cans daily.
  • Maintaining equipment and facility cleanliness, ensuring all tools and machinery are in safe and working condition.
  • Performing floor and carpet care as needed.
  • Keeping sidewalks, parking lots, and playground areas safe by addressing potential hazards.
  • Securing all doors and windows before closing the center.
  • Immediately reporting any unsafe equipment to the Center Manager.
  • Performing routine maintenance, repairs, and upkeep on exterior buildings and outdoor areas.
  • Constructing, erecting, and installing structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard using carpenter’s hand and power tools, including children’s outdoor play equipment and appropriate fall zones.
  • Adhering to all safety protocols related to the use, handling, and storage of chemicals, cleaning supplies, and materials, as per the Hazardous Materials training Program.
  • Ensuring that all chemicals and cleaning products are stored securely in childproof cabinets or designated storerooms.
  • Maintaining awareness of safety guidelines and referring to the Safety Binder for detailed instructions and protocols.
  • Preparing and maintaining inventories of janitorial supplies, regularly monitoring stock levels, and notifying the Center Manager of any items that need to be reordered.
  • Assisting the Head cook and/or cook with organizing and storing groceries and inventory.
  • Attending staff meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for professional growth.
  • Reviewing and understanding all center policies and procedures regarding the safety of children and ensuring compliance.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of program and client-related information.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.
