About The Position

The Custodian III position involves supervising a team of custodians, including full-time staff, student workers, and temporary employees. This role is responsible for communicating needs, organizing and inspecting work, managing leave, writing reviews, and ensuring adequate supplies for custodial services. The Custodian III also collaborates with the Custodian IV to ensure timely completion of training for assigned custodians and manages snow removal and ice spreading at building entrances. Additionally, this position is responsible for scheduling, organizing, and inspecting deep cleaning projects such as carpet restoration, floor stripping and waxing, wall washing, and detail cleaning of vents, windows, and light fixtures. Routine inspections of assigned areas to ensure compliance with cleanliness, health, and safety standards are also a key responsibility. Ancillary duties include assisting other Facilities Staff as needed and modifying duties and schedules of Custodian II's and I's to accommodate requests. The position may require working outside normal hours for University Functions, special events, or emergencies.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned.
  • Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires).
  • Critical Services Designation.
  • State Issued Driver's License Required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a group of 3 or more full-time Custodians, student workers, and temporary employees.
  • Communicate needs and requirements among custodians and building occupants.
  • Organize, schedule, monitor, and inspect the work of each custodian.
  • Approve leave and manage leave for custodial staff.
  • Write reviews and documentation to support personnel actions.
  • Ensure assigned areas and buildings are adequately supplied with custodial items.
  • Ensure all applicable training for assigned Custodians is completed in a timely manner.
  • Manage and inspect building entrance snow removal and ice melt spreading.
  • Schedule, organize, and manage deep cleaning projects (e.g., carpet restoration, floor stripping/waxing, wall washing).
  • Inspect areas pre- and post-cleaning to ensure appropriate actions are taken.
  • Conduct routine inspections of all assigned areas to ensure compliance with cleanliness, health, and safety standards.
  • Assist other Facilities Staff as needed.
  • Modify Custodian II and I duties and schedules to accommodate requests.
  • Work outside normal work hours to supervise as needed for University Functions, special events, or emergencies.
