USC Housing, a division of USC Auxiliary Services, accommodates students, athletes, faculty, and staff in over 50 properties on and off campus, prioritizing their comfort, safety, and welcome. The department offers amenities such as comprehensive recycling programs and simplified online repair requests, all while focusing on student well-being and upholding a vision of excellence. This posting is to build a pool of candidates for future Custodian III, USC Housing positions. The role is ideal for a driven custodial professional who takes pride in creating excellent guest experiences and ensuring properties are clean and well-maintained. The Custodian III will be a helpful and friendly point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and guests, utilizing their knowledge and experience to uphold the organization's standards of excellence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma not required
  • 2 years of experience (combined education/experience can substitute for minimum experience)
  • Thorough knowledge of custodial trade
  • Knowledge of all cleaning standards and methods, materials, and equipment
  • Knowledge of and compliance with the operation of all mechanical cleaning equipment
  • Proven customer service experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 lbs
  • Presents oneself professionally, in line with a higher education environment
  • Valid CA driver's license required
  • Must participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System
  • Must demonstrate, through ideas, words and actions, a strong commitment to USC's Unifying Values

Responsibilities

  • Perform standard custodial procedures and ensure custodial standards are met.
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned facilities.
  • Provide customer service to faculty, staff, students, and guests, meeting their needs, offering options, resolving problems, and following up.
  • Maintain a friendly, helpful demeanor.
  • Perform basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and painting maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Assist supervisor in prioritizing work orders.
  • Assist in the training of new custodians and temporary staff in the proper use of cleaning equipment.
  • Maintain perpetual inventories of custodial and maintenance supplies as directed by the supervisor.
  • Identify and communicate emergency situations to the manager.
  • Maintain safe and secure areas and report unsafe conditions to the manager.
  • Comply with all university policies and procedures and all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
