About The Position

Ames National Laboratory, a Department of Energy (DOE) funded National Laboratory, affiliated with Iowa State University, is seeking applicants for a Custodian I. The Custodian I will perform general custodial duties including collecting recycled paper, dusting, cleaning, sweeping, mopping, emptying waste containers, checking and replacing restroom supplies, checking and replacing lights, stripping and refinishing floors, and cleaning floors with auto scrubber and auto burnisher. The duties of this position require the ability to lift, carry, and/or move up to 50lbs. occasionally, and up to 25 lbs. frequently. Frequent bending, squatting, and stooping is also required. The ability to attend required courses regarding personal protective equipment (PPE), wear and maintain PPE, and fully adhere to the requirements set forth in the Personal Protective Equipment Program is required to perform the duties of this position.

Requirements

• Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
• Ability to lift, carry, and/or move up to 50lbs. occasionally, and up to 25 lbs. frequently
• Frequent bending, squatting, and stooping
• Ability to attend required courses regarding personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Ability to wear and maintain PPE
• Fully adhere to the requirements set forth in the Personal Protective Equipment Program
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

• Previous Custodial experience
• Experience operating an auto scrubber (either ride-on or walk-behind)
• Experience operating an auto burnisher
• Experience shampooing carpets and using carpet extractors
• Experience stripping, waxing and refinishing floors
