About The Position

This unit exists to perform Housekeeping and Custodial services to assure that the facilities and client environments are cleaned and maintained according to all applicable regulatory standards, and provides a safe sanitary environment for clients and staff. Meet the facilities needs of the Department of Human Services Southern Region customers while managing available resources to provide a physical environment at the highest quality possible. Additionally, the unit establishes and maintains a pleasant, safe, and sanitary environment for clients, personnel and visitors in the buildings of the Department of Human Services. This position is unique in that it provides Custodial Services for a wide range of agencies within the Department of Human Services, which include Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo campus, the Division of Youth Corrections and the Division supporting Developmental Disabilities. The position is required to meet and maintain all regulatory requirements set by JCAHO, (Joint Commission for Accrediting Health Organizations), the Colorado Department of Public Health, and other regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • Three (3) months of cleaning experience.
  • Must possess a current, valid, non-restricted Colorado driver's license. Out-of-State Driver’s License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.
  • Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption.
  • Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Must be available for call back to perform essential and/or emergency services.
  • Must be available for shift work.
  • May be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours.
  • Must be willing to travel to different site locations within your assigned region, utilizing a state vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to maintain a set schedule to finish cleaning, maintenance, and other tasks to meet facility needs.
  • Ability to follow set cleaning procedures for various facilities; knowledge of project floor work such as buffing and waxing; ability to maintain cleaning supplies inventory and order new supplies appropriately
  • Ability to identify problematic areas within facilities and clean facilities thoroughly.
  • Able to scrub surfaces, move furniture, shovel snow, and dispose of waste appropriately.
  • Experience cleaning and maintaining facilities (ie. educational institutions, hospitals, long-term care facilities, etc...)
  • Experience sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, as well as performing general dusting and vacuuming within a facility.
  • Experience working with the mental health and/or locked adolescent population.
  • Relevant years of State service should be considered as a preferred qualification to be used to determine the top candidates on the referral list.

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily cleaning, sanitizing, and servicing of assigned work areas as per schedules and procedures by use of appropriate disinfectant cleaners, chemicals and equipment consisting of sweeping, dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, restroom cleaning, and other duties as assigned.
  • Performs daily detail cleaning of assigned area as per schedules and procedures by use of appropriate disinfectant cleaners, chemicals and equipment – consisting of washing walls, doors, frames, sills, windows, baseboards, fixtures, furnishings, ceilings, vents, and light fixtures.
  • Performs weekly project work within all areas including all hard floor and carpet areas.
  • Performs project floor work consisting of buffing, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and sealing of hard floor surfaces, and spot cleaning, shampooing and extracting of carpeted floors by use of appropriate cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Collects and disposes of trash and biohazard waste by properly containing and transporting to proper disposal locations.
  • The removal of desks, chairs etc., to conduct project floor work in all areas on a weekly basis.
  • Participates in moving of furniture, appliances, equipment, supplies, etc. manually and by use of moving equipment.
  • May need to assist in snow removal when needed.
  • Cleans and services equipment, maintains janitorial closet, supplies, stock levels, and chemical labeling requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
