About The Position

Hawaiian Building Maintenance (HBM) is seeking a full-time Custodian Floater to join their team. This role involves performing routine cleaning tasks across various commercial, retail, and residential properties on the island of Hawai'i. The Custodian Floater will rotate between assigned areas to address operational needs and coverage gaps, responding promptly to cleaning requests and maintaining high standards of cleanliness. The position requires flexibility in working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and involves operating cleaning equipment and reporting maintenance issues. HBM has a long history in Hawai'i, starting as a janitorial services company in 1957 and evolving into a full-service asset services partner. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Must have a valid Hawaii driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability
  • Ability to handle physical tasks, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 25–50 pounds)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Valid Hawaii driver's license and personal vehicle
  • Ability to work various shifts and locations of the island of Hawai’i
  • Must pass HBM prescreen check

  • Previous janitorial or custodial experience preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting in common areas
  • Ability to drive a golf cart
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors
  • Empty trash and recycling bins; replace liners and transport waste to designated areas
  • Refill supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper
  • Maintain cleanliness in high-traffic areas including food courts, entrances, hallways, and seating areas
  • Rotate between assigned areas based on operational needs and coverage gaps
  • Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and urgent cleaning requests
  • Clean glass surfaces, doors, and windows as needed
  • Operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, buffers, and vacuums
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of chemicals and placement of warning signs (e.g., “Wet Floor”)
  • Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply shortages to supervisors
  • Assist with special cleaning projects or events as required
