About The Position

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is seeking a hardworking and dependable Custodian (Building/Grounds Specialist II) to join their team. This position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the museum ships, piers, and buildings. The role involves a variety of cleaning tasks, occasional supervision of contractors and temporary staff, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The employee may also be required to assist with museum functions, events, and training new employees. Requirements

  • Experience in custodial work that is directly related to the area of employment.
  • Knowledge of skills, methods, and procedures necessary to perform custodial duties.
  • Knowledge of safety practices in all areas of custodial duties.
  • Skilled in the use of all custodial equipment necessary to perform duties, i.e., sweepers, vacuum cleaners, buffers, and polishers.
  • Basic computer skills to enter time/leave in computer and complete online training.
  • Ability to climb vertical ladders.
  • Ability to walk long distances in a single workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule in order to accommodate museum special events.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Frequent lifting: 39 lbs.
  • Non-essential declaration required.
  • May be required to report to work during emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, directs, and performs custodial duties to keep the museum ships, piers, and buildings in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Plans, prioritizes, and performs work tasks for assigned areas of responsibility, including office spaces, display rooms, passageways, restrooms, stairways, piers, berthing compartments, and sales areas.
  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes decks and floors.
  • Vacuums rugs, carpets, and furniture.
  • Dusts furniture and fixtures.
  • Empties trash and cleans restrooms.
  • Occasionally supervises assigned contractors and temporary employees hired to assist with cleaning all areas of responsibility.
  • Supervises and assigns tasks as shift leader during regular overtime events, on weekends, and holidays.
  • Inspects all assigned areas of responsibility daily for cleanliness, serviceability, and safety.
  • Maintains inventory of necessary supplies, requisitions supply as needed and submits maintenance requests when required.
  • May be responsible for supervising the set-up of museum functions and events when required.
  • Coordinates and directs outside vendors/contractors tasked to support special event functions.
  • Maintains knowledge of safety practices, including knowledge of procedures to protect against bloodborne pathogens, and complies with hazardous waste disposal regulations.
  • May be required to train new employees.
  • May be required to work after normal working hours, on weekends, holidays, during emergencies and/or special events.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
