About The Position

As a Custodian 2 for Student Affairs, you will work under general supervision to perform custodial and minor maintenance tasks that ensure the cleanliness and proper care of facilities within residence halls, apartments, and dining areas. You must be willing and able to carry out commercial cleaning and basic repair duties while using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including operating industrial cleaning equipment and power tools such as high-speed buffers, burnishers, shampooers, vacuum cleaners, and hand drills. In this role, you will clean restrooms, classrooms, residence halls, offices, and similar facilities, as well as complete minor maintenance tasks such as caulking, replacing toilet seats and lavatory handles, performing minor furniture repairs, and replacing outlet covers. You must also be able to move heavy items such as tables, furniture, cleaning equipment, and supplies. This position requires you to bend, stoop, lift, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds; stand and walk continuously throughout your shift; and climb and stand on ladders. You may also supervise lower-level staff.

Requirements

  • Ability to do required work.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Six months experience in custodial, general or building maintenance, grounds keeping, or semi-skilled carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing repair work; OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
