About The Position

Custodian 1 - Gage Western State Hospital serves patients with long-term mental health needs. Our custodians keep the hospital clean and safe. This work helps patients heal in a space that feels calm and cared for. A clean space is very important for our patient's care. Your work each day supports their recovery and helps staff do their jobs well. We have various schedules and shifts available. Please apply and discuss your availability when our team reaches out. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • A valid driver’s license to legally drive in Washington State may be required.
  • Physical stamina: Comfortable with lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 45 pounds at times. As well as standing, bending, and moving equipment throughout each shift.
  • Communication: Talks with patients and coworkers in a clear and respectful way, even when things get stressful.
  • Adaptability: Adjusts to changing schedules, tasks, and needs during the day.
  • Computer skills: Uses email and the internet to complete basic tasks.
  • Judgment: Makes good decisions while completing daily work.
  • Teamwork: Works well alone and with others to get the job done.
  • Equity and cultural competence: Treats all patients, coworkers, and visitors with fairness and respect.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep, mop, buff, and scrub floors, and apply floor finish.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and bathing areas, including all fixtures and surfaces.
  • Clean and disinfect furniture, such as beds, desks, tables, and chairs.
  • Run, clean, and take care of custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Check supply closets and restock them when needed.
  • Check for safety hazards and report them.
  • Keep custodial closets clean and organized.
