About The Position

The Custodial Supervisor- Second Shift position is responsible for the cleaning of assigned areas and supervising the employees in those areas. This is a full-time position, typically 38:45 hours per week, usually Monday through Friday. The role oversees employees who typically work between 10:30 PM and 11:30 PM, requiring the supervisor to work until midnight at least one night a week to ensure support and verify cleaning quality of the late-night crew. A varied schedule throughout the week is expected to supervise employees working various shifts, with occasional weekend work for events or supervision of weekend crews. Overtime may be required for some yearly events. Requirements

  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • Cleaning experience and knowledge of custodial and safety procedures.
  • Leadership/Supervisory experience. Able to monitor progress and keep staff accountable.
  • Customer Service skills. Able to actively listen and provide the best possible and timely solution to benefit all parties involved (staff, Facilities Services Department, customer, etc.).
  • Able to connect with own staff and other departments, sharing information accurately and resolving problems.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer administrative skills (email, word, basic excel, web browsing, etc).
  • Able to effectively utilize new technologies and leverage technology to increase productivity.
  • Good organizational skills to prioritize own work, delegate work to others, and plan/coordinate schedules and priorities for staff.
  • Conflict Management skills to arrive at constructive resolutions or appropriate compromise.
  • Able to perform the physical requirements of the job as described in the Work Environment/Conditions outlined below.
  • Able to work in the US legally without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the cleaning of assigned area and the custodial staff working in those areas. This includes developing staff schedules to accomplish tasks according to the Facilities Services Department Cleaning Service Requirements for both routine work and projects, communicating shifts and task expectations for each full time employee and part time student crew, providing on-site guidance to custodial staff, and holding staff accountable to perform their work in a timely manner and according to department standards. Supervising also involves administrative tasks such as approving employee timecards.
  • Inspects buildings on a consistent basis to ensure fulfillment of cleaning standards. This includes daily walking through assigned areas and reporting issues found to the leadership team, performing inspections with a mobile device using inspection software, and reviewing inspections with direct reports to attain and maintain desired cleaning quality.
  • Directly supervises full time custodians and student leaders, meeting with them regularly to give feedback and discuss concerns, assisting them in problem solving, and confirming acceptable work performance. Full time employees will be evaluated on their performance informally throughout the year and officially through the yearly performance review required by Human Resources. Student leaders are to receive an evaluation each semester.
  • Communicates with departments across campus through work requests, emails, meetings, etc., to inform them about services adjustments, answer concerns, fulfillment of requests, and other relevant information.
  • Implements and maintains housekeeping and safety standards consistent with OSHA regulations to successfully meet inspection criteria and maintain a safe working environment. Examples include enforcing PPE requirement compliance and providing additional training regarding safety procedures.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains new employees, both full time custodians and part time leaders, when there are vacancies, following the guidance from Human Resources for hiring and onboarding applicants, and the orientation and training requirements that are comprised in the Facilities Services Department procedures. This position oversees and assists student leaders in their role of interviewing, hiring, and training new student employees, ensuring all processes are followed and that each new student employee receives their necessary onboarding.
