About The Position

Under the direction of the ECDC Assistant Director and in accordance with the Christian principles of the YMCA, the Allison Cassens Early Childhood Development Center Custodial Staff Member will maintain a clean, safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for children, families, staff, and visitors. The Custodial Staff Member will perform daily cleaning and sanitation duties throughout the ECDC facility; assist in maintaining classrooms, restrooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces; ensure compliance with YMCA standards and licensing regulations; and provide a quality experience to children and families that reflects the YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to understand and follow DCFS regulations, YMCA policies, and childcare licensing standards related to cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties including bending, standing, walking, and climbing.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required or ability to acquire within 30 days of hire
  • Must pass all required background checks and complete all required trainings.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical

Nice To Haves

  • Previous custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance experience preferred, especially in a childcare, school, or community setting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas in accordance with YMCA standards, DCFS regulations, and childcare licensing requirements.
  • Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, disinfecting surfaces, trash removal, and restocking supplies.
  • Ensure the facility consistently meets health, safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards required by DCFS licensing inspections and YMCA policies.
  • Promptly identify and report maintenance, repair, or safety concerns to the Assistant Director to help maintain a safe and healthy environment for children and staff.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup of classrooms, meetings, and special events as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of custodial supplies and notify the Assistant Director when supplies need to be reordered.
  • Follow all YMCA policies and procedures related to health, safety, emergency response, infection control, and confidentiality.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with children, families, staff, and visitors while modeling YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
