The Custodial Services Worker is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment within assigned facilities. This role performs routine cleaning, sanitation, and basic maintenance tasks to ensure buildings are orderly, functional, and welcoming for employees, visitors, and customers. This position will report to Norfolk Naval Shipyard. This position will occasionally require night or weekend work.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous commercial custodial or janitorial experience
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe handling procedures
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment (vacuum, floor buffer, auto scrubber, etc.)
- As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening (post accepted offer) and have acceptable background check results.
- If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, offices, hallways and common areas
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors and surfaces
- Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste properly
- Clean windows, mirrors, glass surfaces, and fixtures
- Restock restroom and facility supplies (soap, paper towels, tissue, etc.)
- Perform routine floor care such as vacuuming, buffing, and spot cleaning
- Perform scheduled floor maintenance such as stripping and waxing
- Perform scheduled carpet maintenance such as shampoo and extraction cleaning
- Follow established cleaning schedules and checklists
- Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies
- Report maintenance issues, damages, or safety concerns promptly
- Assist with event setup/cleanup and special projects as needed
