About The Position

This position is designated as essential staff. The Facilities Team presence at work is required regardless of the degree to which the College is operational, while open or closed, essential staff are required to report for work at any time their function is necessary to maintain or protect the physical well-being of the campus community. The Custodial Services Supervisor is responsible for assigning and overseeing the work of the custodial staff, contractors, and student workers. Reporting directly to the Director of Facilities, the Custodial Services Supervisor will lead, instruct, schedule, train and inspect the custodial team members work and the work of contract custodial labor services to maintain a clean and healthy work environment of all CCAD buildings and property. In addition to managing a team of 4-6 custodial staff and 3rd shift contract labor, this position is expected to evaluate performance, provide direct custodial support and be hands-on when needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the College.
  • Willingness to train or retrain as needed
  • Ability to plan and organize work.
  • Strong thorough knowledge of proper safety techniques and procedures while using chemicals, power tools, hand tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques and the ability to operate equipment. (i.e., carpet cleaner)
  • Familiar with HazCom Training and OSHA standards.
  • Ability to use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely.
  • Ability to learn and apply proper cleaning procedures and use of equipment and supplies.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed for special projects and events. Assigned shift times are subject to change based on campus needs.
  • Experience with snow and ice removal.
  • Willingness to proactively engage with custodial staff and third party vendors providing feedback to ensure optimal cleanliness of buildings.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years custodial experience.
  • 2-3 years of previous leadership or supervisory experience required, with a proven track record of developing team member's skill sets.

  • Experience within an educational environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Understands the custodial needs of the entire campus and distributes the workload, as needed, in an equitable and efficient manner.
  • In coordination with the Director of Facilities plans and leads training for custodians in proper custodial procedures including the use of tools, electrically-powered machines, cleaning compounds, solvents, and chemicals.
  • Audits and evaluates the custodian team's work and ensures the campus needs are being met.
  • Assists the General Laborers with auditing inventory of supplies.
  • Responsible for redistributing the work load or fills in when a custodian team member calls off or is on vacation.
  • Assists in coordinating the custodian team should an emergency happen requiring their services.
  • Responsible for advising the Director of Facilities r on condition of buildings and facilities by conducting regular inspections and reporting results of inspections.
  • Manages 3rd party custodial services and ensures a quality product is being received per the contract.
  • Has oversight over special projects as needed, including resident hall turnover and utilizing a computerized maintenance management system for work order documentation.
  • Provide support for on campus events.
  • Maintains professional working relationships with both internal and external campus customers.
  • Assists with auditing and maintaining up-to-date MSDS records for compliance.
  • Remove trash in classrooms, laboratories, administrative areas and hallways.
  • Sweep and mop designated areas.
  • Clean and restock restrooms.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas.
  • Clean glass surfaces indoors and partitions as needed.
  • Dust vertical/horizontal surfaces, tables, desks, and shelves in administrative areas.
  • Inventory and stock supply areas.
  • Assist with light maintenance as assigned i.e.: replacing light bulbs or a ceiling tile, helping to clean a work site, etc. These are examples and not an exhaustive list.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance to walks, drives, and parking lots, including snow and ice removal.
  • Maintain outside areas of campus and remove trash and debris.
  • Assist with special events in the evenings and on weekends as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
