About The Position

Under the direction of the Morgan County Public Works Director, the custodian maintains a clean working environment for all staff and visitors, ensuring all areas are safe. Responsible for locking-up county buildings each evening and disposing of waste paper and other discards. Performs related work as required. The assignments for this position will come from the supervising managers.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, preferably 18 years of age or over
  • Must possess a valid Drivers' License
  • Ability to perform both indoor and outdoor physically demanding duties.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral/verbal work instructions.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks involving bending, squatting, standing for extended periods of time, pushing, reaching and some lifting.
  • Ability to learn to operate a variety of hand tools and power equipment such as a putty knife, squeegee, floor machine and vacuum.
  • Works and communicates with internal and external clients and customers to meet their needs in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner.

Responsibilities

  • Turns off lights and locks up buildings.
  • Responsible for securing county buildings/facilities each evening.
  • Disposes of waste paper and other discards; collects and places trash in an incinerator or trash pickup area.
  • Sweeps, dusts and wet mops floors or stairs, using brooms, dust mops, vacuums, wet mops and floor machines.
  • Dusts, cleans and polishes furniture, counters, shelving, window/door ledges and casings, using cloths and cleaning/polishing solutions.
  • Dusts, wet mops and washes walls, ceilings and partitions, using wall brushes, wet mops, cloths and cleaning solutions.
  • Cleans lavatories, toilets and bath facilities, using cleansers and sanitizing solutions, brushes, cloths and squeegees.
  • Shovels snow and sweeps sidewalks, steps and driveways; removes trash, cleans restrooms and washes equipment.
  • Spot cleans carpets and rugs, using a rug shampooing machine, brush, or cloth and cleaning solutions.
  • Performs other duties as required.
