About The Position

The Sioux Falls School District is seeking flexible and dedicated Custodial Engineers to join their team. The Custodial team is essential in creating a safe and healthy environment for SFSD students. This role involves performing corrective and preventive maintenance on various building systems and equipment, providing miscellaneous maintenance services, and responding to building emergencies. The position requires advanced boiler training and experience, the ability to work unsupervised, and a valid driver's license. The Custodial Engineer will also assume building custodial coordination responsibilities in the absence of management and may share responsibility for holiday, extended day, and weekend activities.

Requirements

High School Diploma
Minimum of 24 months of plumbing and/or heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) experience or two of the following: 1) Minimum of 12 months of on-the-job plumbing and/or HVAC experience or minimum of 12 months of District building plumbing and/or HVAC experience (Custodian Engineer); 2) Successful completion of five credit hours of vocational plumbing and/or HVAC courses, or successful completion of two plant maintenance-mechanical courses sponsored by Operational Services; 3) Successful completion of three plant maintenance-mechanical courses sponsored by Operational Services.
Good physical health including ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places and work at those places.
Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, standing and walking.
Repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers.
Frequent bending, crouching, hearing, lifting, pushing and stooping.
Occasional carrying, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
Ability to pass written and hands-on job knowledge/job skill tests administered by Operational Services.
Advanced boiler training and experience with boilers required.
Ability to work unsupervised.
Current State Vehicle operator's license; ability to operate all vehicles in the district fleet safely; insurable.
Good attendance.
Ability to communicate and follow written and oral direction.
Ability to demonstrate recognition of equipment malfunction.
Demonstrated positive attitude towards people with whom one works, ability to work cooperatively and willingness to accept instructions and training.
Subject to call beyond the regular work day and week when emergency situations arrive which require immediate attention.

Responsibilities

Performs corrective (repair) and preventive maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment, including heating and cooling systems, temperature control systems, fire alarms and automatic sprinkler systems, electrical systems, plumbing and sewer systems, program clocks and signal systems, building communication systems, grounds care equipment, and general repair of building furnishings.
Assumes building custodial coordination responsibilities in the absence of Building Custodial Manager and Night Supervisor.
Provides miscellaneous maintenance services such as replacing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes where scaffolding is needed, removing graffiti, and delivering/moving supplies, materials, furniture, and equipment.
Provides site maintenance and repair work, including snow removal (using truck-mounted snowplows and sanding equipment) and lawn irrigation system maintenance.
Responds to building emergencies when needed.
Maintains assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment.
Makes recommendations for supplies and equipment to the Building Custodial Manager.
Works a revised schedule and substitutes for other custodial staff when necessary.
Shares responsibility for holiday, extended day, and weekend activities.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
